Day 30 of the Slow Down Challenge.

Wow how did I get here?!

Go big or go extinct.

Wednesday October 21, 2026
8:02 AM,
starting again at 8:52 AM

Greetings Thinkers,

Well isn't that interesting. The day I "finish" the event, is the day of the end of my Slow Down Challenge.
It's like I lined that up at the beginning on purpose but I did not.

Often I DO make those kinds of line ups when I start a 30 Day Kymology Challenge. I'll test a start day and walk it out, count out to 30 and see where it ends. See if it lands on a day with significance, a moon, or an anniversary of some thing. I usually like a line up so I make one. So when one happens without any conscious intention, well that just feels damn uncanny kind of special. And that's where we are today.

Yesterday I got the last full Fancy and FULL trailer and full pick up truck unloaded and I returned the trailer to the rental place and instead of sending the - "don't check in it, I'm just parking it here overnight" text that I have sent every night for the last 6 nights, I texted - "I'm done, you can check it in now." And that felt great! That felt great even when it was at the tail end of sitting in 2 hours of traffic that should have been a 40 minute drive. THAT felt like the universe was still picking on me.

recall:

a rainbow is god's promise never to flood the earth again.
a wind storm at your tent is god's reminder that not all opportunities are as they seem.
and horrible traffic on your last day is the universe telling you to slow down, still, even at the end.

what else?

It seems my sleep schedule is slowing shifting back. Out of bed a little less early today but I am still awake and up in the dark which I am only still minding because I have to use artificial overhead light to start my days.

This morning, the morning drink (coffee) was LOVELY because I did not forget to have heavy cream got and I am not out of coffee beans yet and I used the new special honey that I could not even get open the day before. Is that my failing grip strength or forearm soreness from moving all these fucking pumpkins!?!

The day before yesterday was hard, and yesterday was still hard but different hard. It felt like the when it rains it pours stuff. Can't catch a break. - Oh you think the market is over and all the hard is over?!, no, deal with this mood and that complaint and this traffic too. Ok universe, I'm here for it. Keep it coming. Whatever you think I need.

What else? What else?

Today Oura says "strive for balance". Balance is a word Kymology dislikes, so now I'm bristling. But I can bristle and still get the point.

last night, randomly, I went through and posted a bunch of stories, pictures from the scenes of my stuff at the Lucketts Market

I had been feeling bad about doing a bad job at social media during the event. So I did some stories to curb that feeling.

Recall: how many loads did it take to get to the center of the tootsie pop true end of this event! I said I would tell you today, and now I feel I have no count. Perhaps that's part of why I was always bad at these math problems. Counting can be hard. If it's hard, should we stop trying to do it? No, I don't think that.

The Counts:

-5 days in to Lucketts Market event. Finally out of the clean up era and now so much next stuff to do!
I know, I know, take a break first!

Day 30 of the Slow Down Challenge. OMG... how is it over already?!

Day 289 of THIS Daily Email.

16 days until Joe's 30th birthday!

Itinerary for today:

  • finally an "OPEN" day, my favorite! There are no loads waiting to be unloaded, no thing I am committed to go to. There is plenty plenty to do, to do, but I feel I have so much more freedom today to choose what that is. Everyday is free to choose and some days FEEL freer because you haven't already chosen!
  • get to the plants TODAY! I'm pretty sure I skipped / missed a WEEKLY watering for my house plants last week! Yikes!
  • slow down enough to write down some lessons, take some notes about this crazy thing you did- actually do this today!
  • call Mom and plan to SEE Mom this week!
  • slow down to smell something

the good questions remain:

How can I slow down today?
How What can I DO to slow down today?
(what do you think about the difference of these questions?)

Was it worth it?

Will you do it again?

And now a NEW good question, what now? What now that the 30 Day Challenge and focus of SLOW DOWN is "done"?!
What do you think?

Things I did to slow down yesterday:

  1. email in the morning. still have not pushed this to the end of the day.
  2. I slowed down and CALLED a friend and had a big catch up sesh. Phone calls are typically not my jam.
  3. I called my Mom too and heard a very sad story about something that happened to one of our dearest family friends. This adjusted my perspective about all my "hard stuff" the way death and other things that "really matter" can do that for you.
  4. took this note: Is - it affected my perspective, another way to say it hurt my feelings?
  5. I asked for help and help said yes.
  6. I took deep breaths when I felt really bad and overwhelmed with more hard stuff coming my way.
  7. I efforted neutrality toward an ugly situation I am very much a part of and got myself out of letting it hurt me or consume more of my time and energy.
  8. Did I stop and smell anything?

What does this have to do with you today?

An ancient creature, an oversized harvest, and a completely unreasonable undertaking. A lot of parallels or line ups there!

standouts / other thoughts

a place to appeal to the slowness of communing with a friend

figure out your anger- feeling like this would be a good write and a good - always thing to do.

I got myself here why should I think more than myself would get myself out of here?

"No one cared that I was there alone with all this. It was a hard moment." - Now I'm thinking: are those always hard moments? Do we need to feel cared for and not alone , WHEN do we "NEED" to feel this in order to not feel bad?! that's what I'm wondering , which is WHAT actually "makes" us feel this? (Figure out ALL of your feelings, not just your anger)

figure out your anger,
figure out the worth it

quote(s) to consider

The animal gave us the adjective.

Go big or go extinct.

word of the day

mammoth: something enormous in size, scale, or undertaking. The animal gave us the adjective.

a collection of standouts from the Slow Down Challenge

Sometimes - do it in real time, IS slowing down

I found products I have probably saved too long for a special occasion and I used them. Now was the special occasion. Slowing down is special?

when is going to see your Mom or best friend or grandma or a grave or some other special kindred worthwhile soul, when are those visits NOT of the SLOW DOWN quality?

I have said that when I am missing the moons, I'm not living right. I slowed down enough to use the moon. To not miss the moon. Robust night time ritual. Ended the day VERY calm and relaxed and property oriented in my head.

Sometimes what’s slowing down one day may NOT be what’s slowing down the text.

music in the car: when I did listen to it, it used to be hype me up for whatever I'm on my way to, type stuff. During this, it's been a - SLOW ME DOWN for my life kind of soundtrack.

Do slow and calm go in an equation together?

slow does not necessarily mean you're late to things, and apparently it also doesn't mean you can't be early!

Seems making time for people I care about is a theme here. Maybe I do it when I'm not in slow down mode, maybe I'm doing it more in slow down mode.

I felt slowed down and not behind. That was a noted moment.

Trees do not fall down slow. And figuring out the SOUND of a tree falling is not something you should do in a slow way.
Experiencing the sound of a tree coming down beside you... where's the slow in that?

Is noticing, slow?

Maybe slowing down isn't texting so casually...

Called my Mom. Maybe calling my Mom daily is a slow down thing overall.

D272: Now reflecting on the day, I see that I forgot all about that toad all day. When I was fast and busy, I stopped thinking about that toad at all. And now I'm thinking of the toad again. And now I'm wondering about that. What kinds of things we lose track of when we are busy and not slow. What kinds of thoughts we have when we are slow versus not slow. That the quality and kind of our thoughts is actually different depending on our pace in life?! That is both obvious and seems specially and specifically illuminated by this toad experience. This I am sure is happening all the time, all the time..

A busy person will always be very busy

let the kettle take how long it takes

I put what I WANT above SLOW. The only reason slow is important right now is because I want it.

It seems slow has been making me early.
And that seems counterintuitive or something.

go so slow the dog doesn't think you're leaving

Waking up so early it's still dark reminds me of my Dad.

I am a sucker (which means a lover) for good one liners.

perhaps my favorite quote / rule : never ask people about your work

Who is Fancy?

Fancy is the name of my car. When I got the new car this year, I named her. The first car I have ever named. And while she is very dirty and broken in at this point, she is still so Fancy!

Going to an airport solo used to be what made me feel bad ass, now going to a live auction by myself does. Being a buyer who loads up a truck makes me feel baddy. What I feel in the 2026 year of life.

One of my favorite things is to get a message from someone that details a dream they had, that I was in. The kind of intimacy that takes.

I don't eat the vegetables right away. I buy things and then save them for later until they go bad. Goes for fruit too. I just buy and eat less fruit than vegetables .

(diamond as a shape is essentially 2 triangles you know)

Kym fact - I rarely wash my face. Definitely not an end of day or beginning of day skin care face thing person.

some plurals I don't spell right: leafs, lifes,

I don't have a lot of committed organization of my time. Every day is different and I decide what it is. AKA no 9-5 or anything like it or regular.

I love a good double meaning, just like I love a double negative!

a theme of character: Kym has a tendency of disdain for certain words. ( I should make that list.)
(STARTING THAT LIST: vacation, deserve, hope, need)
defining and qualifying are usually why words end up on this list.

Sunrises are Mom. Sunsets are Dad.

true crime podcasts affect my outlook on life

disdain for vaguity. vague is not nice

I'm a horror to say anything to some times

Mismatched shoes is a me thing; it is not a mistake I walked out the door with.

Watching a dog run on the beach is one of the purest sights of happiness I know.

I was not a whiskey drinker. I don't know when I become a whiskey drinker. I have hated whiskey and all dark liquor all my life. Now I drink old fashioneds. Who have I become?

You will often find me "wrapping my head around that good thought"

vague. I don't like vague. don't be vague with me, I won't be vague with you. at least not on purpose.

defines WEIGHT as: the quality of the quantity of matter you are carrying

I like to antagonize common sayings and typical perspectives

Everything is a choice and authenticity is supreme.

Reflecting on my life whether it's looking back at the last month or doing a "this time last year" thing, shorter or longer time frames, doing this at all is a reflection of who I am. That I care to consider who I am, who I have been, what I have done, so that I may use all of that to inform what I do and who I am in the present and the future. That I reflect is a reflection of who I am.

running with turtles

I know, I'm a horror to say anything to some times..

when all my identities are umbrellas

I love a good double negative!

Plan in quotes because I'm so averse to "plans" and "goals".

I chunk out my days, to the minute, in Gcal.

I love to putter so if it becomes "I puttered my life away" so be it.

I'm not a cherry picker, of anything. I like to use things that exist rather than start from new or scratch.

I am an ostrich about politics, news, current events, pop culture and media.

I dislike clichés and most positive quotes, under thought things meant well, commonly said quotes and phrases.

Don't tell me what to do, don't ask me "how how are you?" or say "I'm sorry for your loss" unless you want to annoy me or you really, really mean it. And know it can be hard to tell which it is, and I'm wrong not infrequently.

30 Day Challenges are my thing. I have a tendency to make things every day things. This is where 30 Day Challenges come from!

Like yourself. Know yourself. Express that self.
Think about things. Don't feel like you have to dance in the rain to have a good life.
Don't have a plan. Stand for what matters. Read when you want to. Don't smile when people tell you to.
Don't have goal. Tend plants. Leave marks. Do what you say. Change YOUR world. And your mind!
Be a friend and a daughter and a partner and a sister and a dog mom.
In a world full of "accept who you are" messages, don't forget to be a "work on that" kind of person.
Don't put kindness above truth. Try new things. Be honest. Live by ideals. Have some whimsy.
What you do for money matters; strive to like what you do for money. (job)
If you have a hobby you need a life.
Use what attracts you and let what you care about matter!

Peepers are my favorite sound.

Triangles are my favorite shape.

54 is my number.

I never need to talk but thank you for offering to listen.

If you say I'm overthinking it, I'll probably say you are underthinkig it.

why I do what I do: I want to "make you" THINK. I don't mind if your experience and perception of me "makes you" be more mindful, use your brain more, "think too much" or consider something more carefully, or differently, or moves you to be (more) thoughtful or intentional or authentic.

I am a hugger and I mean my hugs.

I don't like to have scheduled things. The days where I have something scheduled are a certain category of feeling. I'm not very fond of pre sign ups, committing to things in advance externally. My favorite days are the ones I call "blank slate days". Nothing scheduled, nothing formally EXTERNALLY committed (I am full of internal commitment and ideas all the time, so no day is truly uncommitted).

use the moons

I love rules and I am a ruler follower.

I like a cup to fill.

So which is it Kym. Do you like wide open clean slate no commitment things?
Or you "need" want and thrive in containers, defined spaces, rules and limits?

Geez what a walking contradiction. A biggest when to which Witch!?

SOC life - what you allow in, turns into what you spend your time on. Can you see it?

Tomb raider hot is my favorite kind of girl hot, my favorite hot to be.
