D128: the part of life that only happens in kitchens in the mornings

Greetings Thinkers,

Wednesday. Mid week, mid month. Mid weak?

Where is the time going? Implies it's flying. And a silly question to ask or answer. The way we think "time is always flying". Well until we don't, like it's different and not always the case.

All this running with turtles talk, what about snails?

Also about running with turtles, I have this thought to add - a turtle's pace is a turtle's pace. This idea that we would RUN with a turtle. A reminder that the POINT is perhaps not to SLOW DOWN, but to adjust your pace to the occasion of who you want to run with, who you want to listen to, what you want to do.

Reminds me of WALK TALKS which came to me nearly 10 years ago in the form of a friend forcing me to go on hikes. We'd walk, hike (not sure the real difference there) and we'd talk = walk talks. How fast or slow did we have to walk to get the right kind of talk?

A different friend recently noted this to me about the running with turtles thing - maybe turtles have something to say and the only way to hear them is to run at their pace.

Now I'm not talking about turtles. I'm talking about pace.

And all this also goes with whether time is flying or crawling.
When does time crawl? When does time fly? When do you notice which?
What can you only "HEAR" when you go "slow"? And why is it about slow? Is it really about slow?

There's a part of life that only happens in kitchens in the mornings
before anyone decides who they're going to be for the day

and that led me to this thought about mornings and kitchens. I saw this, someone else's write

"There's a part of life that only happens in kitchens in the mornings before anyone decides who they'll pretend to be.
No sunlight on any face yet.
The crumbs from yesterday
are under your feet.
A line of light starts across the floor.
You stand there a while, trying to figure out which version of yourself you can live with today."

I don't like the pretending vibe or the "live with" vibe. In my world it's deciding. And it's thriving not surviving. Everything is a choice and authenticity is supreme, so the idea of organizing a day (and days make life) around pretending and "living with" meant that way, is well outside of the way I relate to life.

So for me me, it goes as this:

"There's a part of life that only happens in kitchens
in the mornings
before anyone decides what they're doing for the day

(Is it be before do, or do before be?
Are you who are you from what you do, or do you do what you do from who you are (be)?)

The sunlight is only starting to come in
perhaps there's a beam you know
and you place your face in it

Crumbs from yesterday sprinkle the counter
dishes from last night sit in the sink

because that's part of your morning routine
(who LIKES to do dishes in the morning?! I do.)

You stand there in your slippers or barefeet depending on the time of year or how clean the floor is,
and there's a moment of figuring out which version of life you're going to take today.
What today, what today, what today - is decided in mornings, usually in the kitchen.

What's your write of this?

What happens in your mornings before things are decided?

CORRECTION: this was supposed to say PLANTS not PANTS. Guh I hate most typos:
*I made cards for Easter; cut out bunnies from paper I got from a friend when his mom died because he thought of me to take her pants PLANTS and then some of her other stuff like her crafting supplies. That was a special thing.

word of the day

dilatory (adj): slow to act, intended to cause delay

USE IT: She resorted to a dilatory approach.

Reflecting on my life whether it's looking back at the last month or doing a "this time last year" thing, shorter or longer time frames, doing this at all is a reflection of who I am. That I care to consider who I am, who I have been, what I have done, so that I may use all of that to inform what I do and who I am in the present and the future. That I reflect is a reflection of who I am.

running with turtles

I know, I'm a horror to say anything to some times..

when all my identities are umbrellas

I love a good double negative!

Plan in quotes because I'm so averse to "plans" and "goals".

I chunk out my days, to the minute, in Gcal.

I love to putter so if it becomes "I puttered my life away" so be it.

I'm not a cherry picker, of anything. I like to use things that exist rather than start from new or scratch.

I am an ostrich about politics, news, current events, pop culture and media.

I dislike clichés and most positive quotes, under thought things meant well, commonly said quotes and phrases.

Don't tell me what to do, don't ask me "how how are you?" or say "I'm sorry for your loss" unless you want to annoy me or you really, really mean it. And know it can be hard to tell which it is, and I'm wrong not infrequently.

30 Day Challenges are my thing. I have a tendency to make things every day things. This is where 30 Day Challenges come from!

Like yourself. Know yourself. Express that self.
Think about things. Don't feel like you have to dance in the rain to have a good life.
Don't have a plan. Stand for what matters. Read when you want to. Don't smile when people tell you to.
Don't have goal. Tend plants. Leave marks. Do what you say. Change YOUR world. And your mind!
Be a friend and a daughter and a partner and a sister and a dog mom.
In a world full of "accept who you are" messages, don't forget to be a "work on that" kind of person.
Don't put kindness above truth. Try new things. Be honest. Live by ideals. Have some whimsy.
What you do for money matters; strive to like what you do for money. (job)
If you have a hobby you need a life.
Use what attracts you and let what you care about matter!

Peepers are my favorite sound.

Triangles are my favorite shape.

54 is my number.

I never need to talk but thank you for offering to listen.

If you say I'm overthinking it, I'll probably say you are underthinkig it.

why I do what I do: I want to "make you" THINK. I don't mind if your experience and perception of me "makes you" be more mindful, use your brain more, "think too much" or consider something more carefully, or differently, or moves you to be (more) thoughtful or intentional or authentic.

I am a hugger and I mean my hugs.

I don't like to have scheduled things. The days where I have something scheduled are a certain category of feeling. I'm not very fond of pre sign ups, committing to things in advance externally. My favorite days are the ones I call "blank slate days". Nothing scheduled, nothing formally EXTERNALLY committed (I am full of internal commitment and ideas all the time, so no day is truly uncommitted).

use the moons

I love rules and I am a ruler follower.

I like a cup to fill.

So which is it Kym. Do you like wide open clean slate no commitment things?
Or you "need" want and thrive in containers, defined spaces, rules and limits?

Geez what a walking contradiction. A biggest when to which Witch!?

SOC life - what you allow in, turns into what you spend your time on. Can you see it?

Tomb raider hot is my favorite kind of girl hot, my favorite hot to be.

what's in this email: the bad eggs fall away maybe it really is time to SLOW DOWN like the signs say Tuesday September 22,, 2026 9 AM Greetings you Thinkers, You know how I do the "monthly recaps"? Reviewing the month, seeing what stands out, what I did, what I said, themes and thoughts, and then I put all of that into one write, one email. Well I did that for running with turtles and slowing down this morning because I think that topic has come to a head. I think it's time to actually do it....

what's in this email: a good feeling to keep you away from bad stuff Monday September 21, 2026 10 AM Greetings you Thinkers, Monday, new week, post mid September, Fall. What's in the bag of this time of life? Duck is still sick. Coughing and hacking and retching, sneezing. It's weird to see a dog have a cold. Wiping his snotty nose... And I am worried and concerned and thinking about if and when to take him to the vet along with all my stuff of medical system resistance. Do we really need to...
