D252: Day 6-7 Beach Trip. 2 days left

what's in this email:

what love is, what beach is, what counts are

6:13PM
& 10 AM

Greetings Thinkers,

In reverse chronological order today because this picture, this scene, this feeling, and this moment are so GOOD I want it to set the page with it.

now back to ante meridiem

9:54AM from the dusty pigeon blue couch. 2 days left of this trip. Something is going on with Chip. (Recall: Chip is Duck.)

I missed the sunrise today except my Mom got it for me because something is going on with Duck and I was up through the night with a sick babe and I did not get up for the sunrise this morning

That's a what that goes on a "what love is" list - gets the sunrise for you when you can't or you won't.

when the count flips

counts

First you're counting down - how many days until a thing. Then sometimes you're counting the duration of the thing - how many days OF the thing are you in to. Then you're counting how many days LEFT in the thing you were counting down to, that was not over in ONE day. Counting the end before the end.

Then the thing is over and the next thing to count comes around eventually.

This is counting.

I don't know where it came from for me. I don't know if this is normal. Does everyone do this, or are you doing this because I'm doing this and you're reading along. Question mark.

Count downs, count ups, getting counts right and wrong and why we count at all.

Already feeling the melancholy of the end

That always happens on trips. A few days before or maybe from day 1, I think about the end.

This thing you have been anticipating and looking forward to for however long. Preparing in whatever ways you prepare. Costing in whatever ways it costs - time, money, what else? Yours, others, and not yours.

For instance, how often have you taken a trip you couldn't afford?

But could you also afford NOT to take it?

recall: "Do you have the time not to do it? ~Cbum says this. Cbum, is that Olympic weight lifter Joey knows who must know something about affording stuff.

Can you afford to not afford the trip? To miss that experience, to not take that "break", to NOT vacation and not take the break from your real life. The "break" you crave, want, need? Your bank account and the things that need paid for say you can't afford it, but what says you can't NOT afford it. That's the really good question.

This about affording and what we count.

movie trivia from the beach

From last night's watching of iconic song movie scenes, I now know why Baby from Dirty Dancing didn't get famous after that great job she did in that movie. Apparently it's because she had a nose job that made her unrecognizable.
Also apparently she didn't get along with Patrick Swayze in the movie. Who couldn't get along with a hunk like that, would be a naive and ignorant thing to say, so I won't say that.
Also apparently Patrick Swayze was a heavy alcoholic.
Also apparently Dirty Dancing was the first movie to sell 1 million video tapes of the movie.
Also apparently Baby made 50k for that film. I don't know what PS made and I didn't look it up, but I would bet it was more.

I also currently, for now, have a reference for The Bee Gees, Journey, Queen, and some other bands my ostrich character flaw knows nothing about . For instance did you know Tracy Chapman was a female? Some among us did not know. Learned that last night too.

What else?

I'm still thinking about trashy fiction. That it's staying with me and this nonsense is taking up space in my head and I'm wondering if that's, good, bad or other and the total cost and afford of that kind of space.

I found a 3rd one of this type of book on the Airbnb stocked shelf and considered starting it. Also considered not starting it so I'm not consumed in a book on the last 2 days of this trip.

fastforward to mid afternoon, Publix trip, I bought an expensive magazine as a splurge to take the place of the trashy novel I should not start and make a claim to fame of reading 3 books on 1 trip.

In Morning Pages, I asked these hard questions:

  1. Did we do all the things we wanted to do?

2. Was I present enough?

3. What before the end?

along with a list of things to do before the end. What do YOU think was on my list? What do YOU think should be on my list?

Haven't taken many pictures this trip. Noticing. Wondering why. Feels too late or not right to correct that at this point. Why weren't you doing it if you wanted it in the first place? That's always a good question.

from x days to be ready for the trip
to DAY 7 on 9 days of trip

and now the count has TURNED to

2 days left of beach trip

Anticipating the end the whole time.

Writing to you from the deck with a dirty martini lined up with the horizon of the world.

What does this have to do with you today?

Everything is a choice and authenticity is supreme.

Reflecting on my life whether it's looking back at the last month or doing a "this time last year" thing, shorter or longer time frames, doing this at all is a reflection of who I am. That I care to consider who I am, who I have been, what I have done, so that I may use all of that to inform what I do and who I am in the present and the future. That I reflect is a reflection of who I am.

I love a good double negative!

Plan in quotes because I'm so averse to "plans" and "goals".

I chunk out my days, to the minute, in Gcal.

I love to putter so if it becomes "I puttered my life away" so be it.

I'm not a cherry picker, of anything. I like to use things that exist rather than start from new or scratch.

I am an ostrich about politics, news, current events, pop culture and media.

I dislike clichΓ©s and most positive quotes, under thought things meant well, commonly said quotes and phrases.

Don't tell me what to do, don't ask me "how how are you?" or say "I'm sorry for your loss" unless you want to annoy me or you really, really mean it. And know it can be hard to tell which it is, and I'm wrong not infrequently.

30 Day Challenges are my thing. I have a tendency to make things every day things. This is where 30 Day Challenges come from!

Like yourself. Know yourself. Express that self.
Think about things. Don't feel like you have to dance in the rain to have a good life.
Don't have a plan. Stand for what matters. Read when you want to. Don't smile when people tell you to.
Don't have goal. Tend plants. Leave marks. Do what you say. Change YOUR world. And your mind!
Be a friend and a daughter and a partner and a sister and a dog mom.
In a world full of "accept who you are" messages, don't forget to be a "work on that" kind of person.
Don't put kindness above truth. Try new things. Be honest. Live by ideals. Have some whimsy.
What you do for money matters; strive to like what you do for money. (job)
If you have a hobby you need a life.
Use what attracts you and let what you care about matter!

If you say I'm overthinking it, I'll probably say you are underthinkig it.

why I do what I do: I want to "make you" THINK. I don't mind if your experience and perception of me "makes you" be more mindful, use your brain more, "think too much" or consider something more carefully, or differently, or moves you to be (more) thoughtful or intentional or authentic.

I am a hugger and I mean my hugs.

I don't like to have scheduled things. The days where I have something scheduled are a certain category of feeling. I'm not very fond of pre sign ups, committing to things in advance externally. My favorite days are the ones I call "blank slate days". Nothing scheduled, nothing formally EXTERNALLY committed (I am full of internal commitment and ideas all the time, so no day is truly uncommitted).

So which is it Kym. Do you like wide open clean slate no commitment things?
Or you "need" want and thrive in containers, defined spaces, rules and limits?

what's in this email: the bad eggs fall away maybe it really is time to SLOW DOWN like the signs say Tuesday September 22,, 2026 9 AM Greetings you Thinkers, You know how I do the "monthly recaps"? Reviewing the month, seeing what stands out, what I did, what I said, themes and thoughts, and then I put all of that into one write, one email. Well I did that for running with turtles and slowing down this morning because I think that topic has come to a head. I think it's time to actually do it....

What's in the bag of this time of life? Duck is still sick. Coughing and hacking and retching, sneezing. It's weird to see a dog have a cold. Wiping his snotty nose... And I am worried and concerned and thinking about if and when to take him to the vet along with all my stuff of medical system resistance. Do we really need to...
