Well Thinkers,

Today was the last day of this beach trip. I felt it all day long. That familiar melancholy for something long anticipated to be over. They often say other languages have a lot more words for things than we do. This feels one of those times. Where is the word for familiar melancholy for things like beach trips and Summer and and Christmases to be over?

There's a very particular sadness in things that are reliably wonderful and reliably end - Christmas, the beach, vacations, summer. You know the melancholy so well that it becomes part of the thing, part of the ritual.

Endings attached to an expectation of return, while simultaneously knowing it may not return the same. That's part of why the sadness is peculiar. It's saying goodbye to something you trust will find you again, even if you know it may be in a different or stranger form.

The last time I will write to you from this couch I've dubbed dusty pigeon blue.

I didn't sleep last night. The something that was going on with Chip, got worse. All throughout the night I woke up to him severely retching and when the fit would be over, I'd start to maybe fall asleep, my heart would lurch with fear and my foot or flash light would find him to make sure he was still breathing. Nights you can't sleep because you are worried someone will die, are not easy ones. And not the kind of night I've never had before.

The night wrapped up with a morning trip to pet urgent care, which I had never heard of and I was SO glad to find here. What a genius and appreciated business - URGENT CARE for PETS. Not an emergency vet which will cost an arm and a leg, and not just a local vet that will never have a sick appointment opening for you. Urgent care for pets! Thank you Vet Cross of Hampstead, NC.

My experience: while the wait was long, the experience was good and turns out what sounded like he might stop breathing is probably basically a dog's version of catching a cold.

So we took Duck to the beach and got him a cold. Poor Bud.

For all this, I missed the sunrise again today. My Mom got it for me again though. I don't know if it's because she's more committed to sunrises than me or if because she finally took a room with a view, and that makes it easier to catch sunrises on the beach.

Our night is winding down. The vibe is that word I can't come up with. At least for me and I am wondering what others are feeling. Am I the only sap here? Is every one else, except Mom, just ready to get back home.

And then there's the quality of the night that you know you have so much to do. All the stuff you have to do to pack up and get out of Shore Drive 101 by 10AM.

So while you are used to these emails not being in the morning since I've been at the beach, we aren't getting back to our former cadence tomorrow, that's for sure. Instead it will be up early, skip everything except wrapping up this house, then an 8 hour drive home, then unload the loved ones and another little drive before finally home home.

I will write to you at the end of our travel day tomorrow. It will be late, I will be tired, I expect it.

from x days to be ready for the trip
to DAY 8 on 9 days of trip

the trip is over now except for the travel back day, but that day does count as a trip day.

How much of my "what before the end" list, did I get done?

What does this have to do with you today?

Things you could know about me:

Sunrises are Mom. Sunsets are Dad.

true crime podcasts affect my outlook on life

Mismatched shoes is a me thing; it is not a mistake I walked out the door with.

Watching a dog run on the beach is one of the purest sights of happiness I know.

I was not a whiskey drinker. I don't know when I become a whiskey drinker. I have hated whiskey and all dark liquor all my life. Now I drink old fashioneds. Who have I become?

You will often find me "wrapping my head around that good thought"

vague. I don't like vague. don't be vague with me, I won't be vague with you. at least not on purpose.

I like to antagonize common sayings and typical perspectives

Everything is a choice and authenticity is supreme.

Reflecting on my life whether it's looking back at the last month or doing a "this time last year" thing, shorter or longer time frames, doing this at all is a reflection of who I am. That I care to consider who I am, who I have been, what I have done, so that I may use all of that to inform what I do and who I am in the present and the future. That I reflect is a reflection of who I am.

I know, I'm a horror to say anything to some times..

when all my identities are umbrellas

I love a good double negative!

Plan in quotes because I'm so averse to "plans" and "goals".

I chunk out my days, to the minute, in Gcal.

I love to putter so if it becomes "I puttered my life away" so be it.

I'm not a cherry picker, of anything. I like to use things that exist rather than start from new or scratch.

I am an ostrich about politics, news, current events, pop culture and media.

I dislike clichés and most positive quotes, under thought things meant well, commonly said quotes and phrases.

Don't tell me what to do, don't ask me "how how are you?" or say "I'm sorry for your loss" unless you want to annoy me or you really, really mean it. And know it can be hard to tell which it is, and I'm wrong not infrequently.

30 Day Challenges are my thing. I have a tendency to make things every day things. This is where 30 Day Challenges come from!

Like yourself. Know yourself. Express that self.
Think about things. Don't feel like you have to dance in the rain to have a good life.
Don't have a plan. Stand for what matters. Read when you want to. Don't smile when people tell you to.
Don't have goal. Tend plants. Leave marks. Do what you say. Change YOUR world. And your mind!
Be a friend and a daughter and a partner and a sister and a dog mom.
In a world full of "accept who you are" messages, don't forget to be a "work on that" kind of person.
Don't put kindness above truth. Try new things. Be honest. Live by ideals. Have some whimsy.
What you do for money matters; strive to like what you do for money. (job)
If you have a hobby you need a life.
Use what attracts you and let what you care about matter!

Peepers are my favorite sound.

Triangles are my favorite shape.

54 is my number.

I never need to talk but thank you for offering to listen.

If you say I'm overthinking it, I'll probably say you are underthinkig it.

why I do what I do: I want to "make you" THINK. I don't mind if your experience and perception of me "makes you" be more mindful, use your brain more, "think too much" or consider something more carefully, or differently, or moves you to be (more) thoughtful or intentional or authentic.

I am a hugger and I mean my hugs.

I don't like to have scheduled things. The days where I have something scheduled are a certain category of feeling. I'm not very fond of pre sign ups, committing to things in advance externally. My favorite days are the ones I call "blank slate days". Nothing scheduled, nothing formally EXTERNALLY committed (I am full of internal commitment and ideas all the time, so no day is truly uncommitted).

I love rules and I am a ruler follower.

I like a cup to fill.

So which is it Kym. Do you like wide open clean slate no commitment things?
Or you "need" want and thrive in containers, defined spaces, rules and limits?

Geez what a walking contradiction. A biggest when to which Witch!?

SOC life - what you allow in, turns into what you spend your time on. Can you see it?

what's in this email: the bad eggs fall away maybe it really is time to SLOW DOWN like the signs say Tuesday September 22,, 2026 9 AM Greetings you Thinkers, You know how I do the "monthly recaps"? Reviewing the month, seeing what stands out, what I did, what I said, themes and thoughts, and then I put all of that into one write, one email. Well I did that for running with turtles and slowing down this morning because I think that topic has come to a head. I think it's time to actually do it....

what's in this email: a good feeling to keep you away from bad stuff Monday September 21, 2026 10 AM Greetings you Thinkers, Monday, new week, post mid September, Fall. What's in the bag of this time of life? Duck is still sick. Coughing and hacking and retching, sneezing. It's weird to see a dog have a cold. Wiping his snotty nose... And I am worried and concerned and thinking about if and when to take him to the vet along with all my stuff of medical system resistance. Do we really need to...
