what's in this email:what today? as a organizing life question You need the thing you don't have in order to get the thing you want to have? "You can't fill from an empty cup." Seems you can't empty a cup either without another empty cup! Greetings Thinkers, In Morning Pages this morning I asked "what today?". This line is a regular appearance in my SOC writing. What today is like what are you doing today, what do you want to to today, what do you have to to today, what do you "need" to do today, WHAT TODAY?, I ask myself? I imagine everyone asks something like this over and over again, day in and day out. What's your reoccurring question of this sort? It's how we make our lists, our lists of things to do. Today, there was no predetermined thing in my day. The days where I have something scheduled are a certain category of feeling. I'm not very fond of pre sign ups. My favorite days are the ones I call "the blank slate days". Nothing scheduled, nothing formally EXTERNALLY committed (I am full of internal commitment and ideas all the time, so no day is truly uncommitted). So with a blank slate day ahead of me, I thought - what today? and then - I could really use a house day. A NO Things & Stuff day. How long has it been since you had that kind of day? Things & Stuff is part of all of my days. Whether I am out getting stuff, or in sorting and tagging stuff, shuffling boxes, trying to make our living space less my working space. These are the kinds of things on my "what today" consist of and it's almost always some Things & Stuff stuff in it. I followed the thought of working on "house things". What would those things be and what would it take to make an improvement here? Then I wrote "every time I try to make room in here, I seem to get nowhere". Either I make some room and do so only by filling up some other room. And then I fill up the room I made in the first room as soon as I have to clean up for the day because all I really did was MOVE STUFF AROUND, and thus how much room can you really make when you take nothing out? That's when I thought: it seems you need space to make space. You have to have space to make space. And then I thought of how backwards and contradictory that seems. You need the thing you don't have in order to get the thing you want to have? That seems fucked up. That also reminds of me of that saying - you have to have money to make money. How do you have money before you can make money? How can you have to have space before you can make space? And then the empty cup parable came to mind. "You can't fill from an empty cup." Seems you can't empty a cup either without another empty cup! Sub cup for room in a house. I can tell this is where people come to THROW THINGS AWAY. I don't make empty cups or rooms because I "can't" throw things away. Is that it? So then it's back to the beginning of the impossible circle of - you have to have space to make space. This is when things end up in my yard. I haul it out of the house to make room, to work, to organize, and then by the end of the day I have to bring it all back in (at least if it's calling for rain or I truly want to clean up) and then whatever space was made, is no more. This idea that .. we are containers that have capacities... is hard to organize in my head. Like am I a little tea cup or a big gulp? How do you get more room? Do you buy a bigger cup and a bigger house? Need money to make space too?! The idea that we have to let go of things for new things to come goes with this cup visual too. If there is no room for new to come in, there will be no new coming to you or the new will FORCE out the old. hmmm What do you make of all this? Do you have plenty of room? 🔺 KG That list of emails to date is nice standouts / other thoughtsEnough is a big project! currently (NOT) reading:Books:

Everyone's nothing is different. is it worth it, is it worth it, is it worth it - saying this to everything! YES YOU CAN SHARE THIS Things you could know about me:I'm not a cherry picker of anything. I like to use things that exist rather than start from new or scratch. I am typically an ostrich about politics, news, current events, pop culture and media. I dislike under thought things like cliches and commonly said quotes and phrases. Don't tell me what to do, or say "how how are you?" or "I'm sorry for your loss" unless you want to annoy me or you really, really mean it. And know it can be hard to tell which it is, and I'm wrong not infrequently. I have a tendency to make things every day things. This is where 30 Day Challenges come from! Like yourself. Know yourself. Express that self. Peepers are my favorite sound. Triangle is my favorite shape. 54 is my number. I never need to talk. If you say I'm overthinking it, I'll probably say you are underthinkig it. why I do what I do:to "make you" THINK. I don't mind if your experience and perception of me "makes you" be more mindful, use your brain more, "think too much" or consider something more carefully, or differently, or moves you to be (more) thoughtful or intentional or authentic. All of these things are reasons why I do what I do and why I am the way I am. I consider these things good things, so if I'm the catalyst for anything like this, so far I think that's a good thing.
