D88: where stranger things come from

what's in this email:

it's not about the TV show

REPLYING builds your thinking muscle

what you suppress will came to you and out of you in stranger forms

if the dragon fits the cup

my thing for LOVING RULES

Greetings Thinkers,

NO this email is not about the TV show Stranger Things. I actually have never seen that show. This is about how STRANGER THINGS come TO YOU and OUT OF YOU. That kind of WHERE stranger things come from.

Yesterday was a great example of how REPLYING builds the thought, for you and for me. It builds THE thought and it builds your ability TO THINK.

Replying is made up of thinking, efforitng to articulate, thinking some more, refining. Once you start to think about it and write it down, it prompts more thought, which you presumably arguably would not have had, had you not thought and wrote down those thoughts. Words give life to thoughts and feelings. It's how you figure such abstract things into your world, "reality".

So imagine how this process of compoundation goes. It happens in you, for you, and when you SEND IT, IF I READ IT (which I do), and I do the same thing - think about it and write it out, the thought builds even further.
Do you see what we do for each other when we participate in this process?

It's probably the "why I do what I do" before I knew by words, why I was doing what I was doing. I knew there was something in the sharing, I just hadn't put my finger on it, and the finger here means WORDED IT OUT.

So what happened?

Multiple people replied to this yesterday and there were good interesting thoughts in there! Thoughts shared that furthered my thoughts on the topic and I was already furthering my thoughts on the topic because I continued to think about it throughout my day.

I want to share some of that with you.

if the dragon fits the cup

One person shared: "maybeeee my explanation would be that the cup can expand and contract. are you a harry potter fan? (if yes, i like to think of it like the dragon they catch in the teapot, who can take on the size/volume of whatever space she’s in)"

This "made me" think of my thing for LOVING RULES. I love rules and I am a ruler follower. Also translates as I LIKE and THRIVE IN containers. Cups. Defined spaces. I may not know much about the Harry Potter series just like I've never seen Stranger Things ( me and my - don't know pop culture or current events stuff) but I can certainly relate to this dragon thanks to receiving this email of someone else's thoughts.

I like a cup to fill. If my cup is "too big", I am less successful! If my cup is small and quirky and has weird spaces and edges and lines to toe or nail into, I am better off. I am like the dragon - I create to the size / volume of the space I have. Size is like rules, confinements are good.

It's ironic that a few days ago I was at one of my spaces and I found myself staring into a closet (someone else's space). What they are able to do with such a small space is what I was standing there to study and doing so with the infamous Lucketts Suzanne at that! She was thinking about this small space used very well thing too.

Literally this space, smaller than a modern standard size closet. Think 4 ft x 5 ft. When you have a small space, you use every inch of that space. The ceiling being the underside of a staircase makes for an AWESOME "canvas" to hang this little thing on and that little rod goes there for these little things and so on.

It's like that I say I DON'T like a clean slate along with the fact that I just yesterday said exactly that! I told you my favorite days are "the clean slate days". Wide open options want me.

So which is it Kym. Do you like wide open clean slate no commitment things?
Or you "need" want and thrive in containers, defined spaces, rules and limits?

Geez what a walking contradiction. A biggest when to which Witch!?

Back to about the size of my space. Recall in July when I was doing the - getting into Lucketts thing, and I wanted my own space with overlapped with "more space". Now I have a bigger space and am some struggling to best "fill it" , use it. Would I be better off with less space in this case? It's very interesting to think about.

what does this have to do with where stranger things come from?

I'm getting here. There was too much good stuff in these exchanges yesterday to get straight to one point.

If you don't express your stuff (self),
it will come out in stranger forms

KM also said: "conversely, i liked what you said about the cup overflowing. reminds me of something i read recently that said if you don’t make time to be creative, that energy can come at you sideways in other less desirable forms."

I replied: This is very similar to what I say about suppressed desire and authenticity. If you don't express that stuff, it will come out in stranger forms. They say it about grief too. I looked for this quote but didn't turn it up. I think it is summaraized by - anything you "suppress" will come to you and out of you in stranger forms. That may be the simplest way I've ever articulated that thought. (Why I bolded it.)
(And another instance of working the thought, replying builds the thought.)

If you don't say when you're mad about the little thing, it will come out later in a bigger way.
If you don't express your "true self", it will come out in a stranger form later when it's built up from being suppressed.
If you all these tiny things add up, it becomes a big thing.
one jelly bean in a jar, spilled over is not a big mess.
one million jelly beans in a har, spills over, that's a bigger mess.
Do you see it?

or maybe it's not a mess at all, and it's a colorful mountain you never would have assimilated had you not put one jelly in the pot at a time?

When is collecting the little things to contain for later, a good thing?

Another when to which!

feathers and bricks and trucks again

Kind of like the feathers and bricks and trucks example too.
Have you heard me talk about this one? It's when things come at you in "heavier" forms. If you don't get it via feather, it will came to you as a brick, if you don't get it as the brick, it will come to you as a truck, and so forth. The feathers bricks and trucks are "lessons from the universe", whatever you need to get.
This by examples of bigger heavier things, is akin to stranger forms, in this point.

one more on this

what's IN the cup matters

Another reader replied about the content of the cup: "Your email led me to think of - a cup can be full and will overflow, but what about when the liquid changes state and becomes gas? Evaporates? Does that make more space? If it freezes, it expands, and can break the cup. What if the cup is full of ice, that then melts, and then there's more space?"

What about when the material in the cup CHANGES.

I replied: I kind of went in the that direction when I thought - the cup can be a pot , it doesn't have to only hold liquid, it could hold and grow a plant for instance. Then it goes above and beyond the cup... That's another interesting thought. When the thing I the cup can be IN the cup and go beyond the cup! What is that ?!

That's similar but not the same as what's IN the cup CHANGING while it's in the cup. Ice to water, liquid to ice and the consequences of those changes...

alright, I'll take a break on all the shares of the topic expanding!

as for yesterday, I did NOT end up having a NO Things & Stuff kind of day. I had an "interruption" which led to me doing an out of house thing and when I got home, all that I had in mind to do, is not what I did, and I very much did a lot of Things & Stuff stuff. I sorted and tagged and asked and cleaned and shuffled stuff. I tried to make our living space less my working space and in terms of making room in here, I got nowhere, just like what I described happens in yesterday's email.

Are you the dragon or the cup?

PS yesterday I framed someone else's clown and loved it. And I used the typewriter again.

standouts / other thoughts

it seems you need space to make space. You have to have space to make space.

you have to have space to make space. This is when things end up in my yard. - This is an abstract applicable analogy for what else?!

also the thing of you have to have experience to get the job, but you need the job to get the experience!

"you don’t know for sure that you will get the return out of it to make it worth the extra spending" - where in life does this fit that is NOT about money

also this whole paragraph from a reader:
I read something someone else wrote today about the nervous system - we don't have one so that we feel calm and peaceful all the time. We have it to process a big range of constant emotions so that we can have more capacity to experience more (life? emotions?). Its not meant to be calm always - its meant to get unregulated so that it can iron out. I think of shock absorbers (not really knowing what they are, a car thing?) - or like suspension of a car - it isnt used all the time but when we go over a bump it does that pop up and down thing we feel and hear. it lets us go over the bump without breaking the car. or something like that.

Like that! ⬆️

we are containers that have capacities

or not?

... it's still hard to organize in my head.

YES YOU CAN SHARE THIS
Sometimes I get asked ~ "would you mind if I sent this to a friend. I think they should read this." My answer to this is ALWAYS YES. My perspective of my Work is that it is PUBLIC. Sure it might seem like I share personal stuff here sometimes and you're right, I do. And I Exhibit for the REASON OF potential. What it could do for someone, that someone could USE IT. So if you know a someone like that, please always feel free to share, pass it along, copy and paste it over whatever you think I best for what you want to do. Sure I'd prefer you didn't copy my words as your own or monetize this in a way I haven't figured out for myself, but beyond that, this is for the using however you see fit.

Things you could know about me:

I'm not a cherry picker of anything. I like to use things that exist rather than start from new or scratch. I am typically an ostrich about politics, news, current events, pop culture and media. I dislike under thought things like cliches and commonly said quotes and phrases. Don't tell me what to do, or say "how how are you?" or "I'm sorry for your loss" unless you want to annoy me or you really, really mean it. And know it can be hard to tell which it is, and I'm wrong not infrequently.

I have a tendency to make things every day things. This is where 30 Day Challenges come from!

Challenges as a framework are what my body, mind, and soul gravitate toward. (That's the everydayness thing.)

Like yourself. Know yourself. Express that self.
Think about things. Don't feel like you have to dance in the rain to have a good life.
Don't have a plan. Stand for what matters. Read when you want to. Don't smile when people tell you to.
Don't have goal. Tend plants. Leave marks. Do what you say. Change YOUR world. And your mind!
Be a friend and a daughter and a partner and a sister and a dog mom.
In a world full of "accept who you are" messages, don't forget to be a "work on that" kind of person. Don't put kindness above truth. Try new things. Be honest. Live by ideals. Have some whimsy. What you do for money matters; strive to like what you do for money. (job) If you have a hobby you need a life. Use what attracts you and make what you want, matter!

Peepers are my favorite sound.

Triangle is my favorite shape.

54 is my number.

I never need to talk.

If you say I'm overthinking it, I'll probably say you are underthinkig it.

why I do what I do:

to "make you" THINK. I don't mind if your experience and perception of me "makes you" be more mindful, use your brain more, "think too much" or consider something more carefully, or differently, or moves you to be (more) thoughtful or intentional or authentic. All of these things are reasons why I do what I do and why I am the way I am. I consider these things good things, so if I'm the catalyst for anything like this, so far I think that's a good thing.

I mean my hugs

The days where I have something scheduled are a certain category of feeling. I'm not very fond of pre sign ups, scheduled things . My favorite days are the ones I call "the blank slate days". Nothing scheduled, nothing formally EXTERNALLY committed (I am full of internal commitment and ideas all the time, so no day is truly uncommitted).
